Bristol Playwright Festival is LIVE!

E.A.T Company's next venture is now live! We are offering South-West playwrights the opportunity to have their play professionally produced and performed as part of E.A.T Company's 2019 season.

Our debut in 2018 saw us receive four and five star reviews across the board and overwhelming support from our Bristol audiences. 2019 will be a fantastic year for us and we want to include as many people as possible in the festival.

The idea came about, as all good ideas do, at the pub! We were chatting about where we go next and we knew we wanted to explore new and innovative writing. As well as this we were keen to keep growing and cultivating our creative connections within Bristol.

This time last year I was waving goodbye to Bristol and heading for the sunnier climes of San Francisco to spend four months with the American Conservatory Theatre. The things I learnt and the people I met will never be forgotten, and one thing I noticed, is the abundance of new writing on show! New work is sought after and celebrated in festivals and general play throughout the city and it was incredible to see the big houses taking chances on new work. This energy and enthusiasm for creativity in theatre was full on inspiring and something I think Bristol is already pretty great at. However, more can still be done to promote and connect writers to communities of actors and directors up for checking out new work.

From today, you can submit your play to us via:

There is loads of information on that page as to what the festival includes and how you can get involved.

The festival itself will take place in January 2019 and will be a great celebration of play writing in Bristol. There will be talks to nod along to, workshops to look silly in, a slam poetry competition to win a bar tab in and new friends to make! All this will culminate in the Gala performance of fifteen minute excerpts of our five shortlisted plays. These will be performed in front of an industry panel and a winner will be announced! That writers work will become a part of our 2019 season, produced and performed to audiences across Bristol and perhaps beyond!

We are really excited about this opportunity and hope you will come join us!
